Lester B. Hayes Project & Performance Grants
GRANT GUIDELINES
The goal of these grants is to support Santa Maria Valley programs through short-term projects which enhance the arts. Emphasis of the project should be on youth programs supporting the arts and developing students' artistic awareness.

Total available for 2018 $1,000.

Deadline is April 27, 4pm.

Eligibility for funding
The applicant/organization must reside in the geographical area served by the Santa Maria Arts Council, and present activities that take place in that area and which benefit Santa maria Valley residents.
Organizational applicants must be able to demonstrate, or find a sponsor that can show proof of, non-profit status under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code or Section 23701d of the California State Franchise Tax Code at the time of application. Proof of non-profit status is not necessary if applying under the umbrella of governmental entities, schools, or city agencies and departments.
The applicant must comply with fair labor standards and pay professional performers, artists, related or supporting personnel at the minimum compensation level for persons employed in similar activities.

Grant Limitations
Expenditures are prohibited for the following:

Profit-making organization or ventures
Replacement of deficit funds
Organizations or individuals with no history of arts programming prior to application
Trust or endowment funds
Tuition assistance
Organizations primarily involved in political action
Legislation and or lobbying or projects with religious purpose
Travel
Projects that have already been completed
Hospitality, lodging, and food
Capital outlay for improvement and construction of facilities.

The judges may adjust award amounts at their discretion. The decision of the judges is final.

Students ages 6-11 enjoyed five days of Art Camp at Valley Art Gallery in early January 2017.

Lessons included Color Mixing, Composition, Painting the Sky, Still Life, Perspective and Picture Matting. The week culminated with an art reception showcasing each student's finished pieces.

During the reception students, parents, grandparents and friends enjoyed refreshments, practiced art appreciation and had fun learning origami. The feedback from students and parents was overwhelmingly positive.

These classes were sponsored by the Lester B. Hayes grant from the Santa Maria Arts Council, coordinated by Lynda Schiff and taught by Lynda Schiff, Jill Iversen and Michael Corob.

Youth Arts Alive - Underwrite stipends for instructors to teach summer classes for area youth in theatre, music, dance and visual arts at the Abel Maldonado Community Center
